Owen defiant: Real Madrid still in Liga race

Real Madrid can still win the Primera Liga this season, insists English striker Michael Owen.

The former Liverpool ace is currently back in England celebrating Christmas and New Year with his family, but gave an interview with Real's TV channel before he left.

"I feel happy. It was difficult in the beginning to come to another country, mainly for the fact that I had to live in a hotel."

"But since then, I have my house and everything seems to be fixed, I have even begun to play more. Every day that happens I feel more acclimatised."

"Real Madrid, by its greatness, must win trophies each season, mainly the Champions League and Liga - the most important competitions. We are of the few, and for that reason we are lucky, that still are fighting in all the competitions this season. Although it is certain that we must catch Barcelona in the Liga."

Owen is convinced Real CAN catch Barca and he pointed out: "One or two months ago we were struggling, we were not doing well in the Liga and also in the Champions. But we won two games in Europe that put to us in the quarters and four or five in Spain to reach second place."

"We need another run of four or five victories to reduce the gap with Barcelona."

He added: "It is possible. It is going to be difficult, but they still must come to our stadium and we have not played half the Liga season. The problem is that we are experiencing some difficult moments."
