Official: Real Madrid announce fresh injury blow
La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week confirmed a fresh personnel setback in the club’s first-team ranks. This comes amid confirmation that Ibrahima Konaté is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.
Stopper Konaté is for his part fresh off a largely positive start to life in Real Madrid colours, since his free agent summer arrival from Liverpool.
Alongside Dean Huijsen, the 27-year-old has established himself as first-choice in the central defensive ranks of new head coach José Mourinho.
Konaté, in turn, was last week afforded a place in Zinedine Zidane’s maiden France national team squad.
As alluded to above, though, just days on, the one-time RB Leipzig standout has been forced to depart Les Bleus’ camp. As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of Real Madrid on Thursday.
"Following the tests carried out today on our player Ibrahima Konaté by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a collateral ligament injury in his right leg. Awaiting progress."
