Nunez: Ex-Real Madrid pal Morientes can be Liverpool success

Antonio Nunez is delighted that Liverpool are chasing his former Real Madrid teammate Fernando Morientes.

Nunez insists: "I think Morientes would be a great signing for the team. With Djibril Cisse out injured for the rest of the season we need another striker, and it will be important for the team to have more options and more players who can play in attack for the second half of the season."

"Morientes is a very good player, a great player. He is very strong, great in the air and would be a powerful focal point for the team."

"He is always a threat and you can always count on him to score. If you are a defender you cannot lose your concentration for a second."

The Spanish winger added: "Off the field he is a very nice person."

"On the field he is a very strong character and a leader. He hasn't rang me about coming to Liverpool yet, and I don't know if we will get him here, but it would be a good move for him and he would be a great signing for Liverpool if he came here."

"The English style of play would suit him perfectly. Being good in the air is more important in England with the amount of crosses you get in the Premiership. He would thrive on that."

"Not only is he good in the air, he holds the ball up very well and brings other people into play because he is so strong."
