No Real meeting say Rooney agents

Wayne Rooney's agents insisted they had not had a meeting with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

On Sunday Perez was re-elected to his post with speculation rife that he wanted to sign 18-year-old England striker Rooney from Everton.

However, Proactive Sports Group, who handle Rooney's business affairs, were adamant Monday that their chief executive Paul Stretford had never met Perez.

In a statement, Proactive said: "Despite erroneous speculation, Paul Stretford has never in his life met Mr Perez."

Everton have offered Rooney a new five-year deal and further talks between the player's representatives and the English Premiership club, which began on Friday, are set to continue this week.

Some reports have suggested that Rooney's wages could increase from 13,000 pounds (24,000 dollars) per week to as much as 50,000 pounds (93,000 dollars) per week.

Rooney, who is currently struggling with a broken foot, saw his international profile soar when he scored four goals during the Euro 2004 tournament in Portugal.

Real, Manchester United and Chelsea, have all been linked with a move for Rooney although none of them has yet made a formal bid to Liverpool club Everton for his services.

Lifelong Everton fan Rooney, who grew up in the Croxteth area of Liverpool, is due to return from holiday next week.

He has two years left on his current contract but Everton are keen to ensure he stays at Goodison Park.
