The Parma technical director was reported to have struck a deal with Real president Florentino Perez last week about taking over the job from Emilio Butragueno.
But AS says while Sacchi is high on Perez's shortlist, no approach has yet been made to the ex-AC Milan and Italy trainer.
Perez intends to move Butragueno into another director's role, while giving the new sports director total responsibility over football matters. Ramon Martinez will also remain at the club as the new sports chief's assistant.
