No Lionel Messi Move If Pérez Bids For Real Madrid Hot Seat

Lionel Messi will not be part of any bid by Florentino Pérez to regain the Real Madrid presidency should he decided to stand for election this summer, something that is still far from assured.

Florentino Pérez has not decided if he will stand as a candidate in Real Madrid's presidential elections in the summer, but, if he does, Lionel Messi's name will not be on his card, a close advisor has revealed.

While many are hopeful that the man that introduced the ill-fated Galáctico era at the Bernabéu returns, his family are not so keen to see him take back over, Antonio García Ferreras has stated.

García Ferreras was Madrid's director of communications under Pérez and has been in contact with the former president to discuss his position and claims that a lot of the media speculation is false.

"There has been a list of world class players going about that it is believed are already in contact with Florentino," García Ferreras told COM Ràdio.

"With Messi there is nothing at all. I assure you that during my conversations with Florentino that possibility was never talked about nor a repeat of the Figo business."

With six months to go before the elections, Pérez has not decided whether to stand, but his decision could well be influenced by his nearest and dearest and not the fans.

"Florentino and I have spoken a lot over the past few days and he has not decided whether or not he will put himself forward for the Real Madrid elections," García Ferreras continued.

"He is very worried about the situation at Madrid and that may oblige him to stand, but his family would prefer him not to."

"It is still too early to say what will happen though and right now I would say it is 50-50."
