Newcastle want to buy back Real Madrid's Woodgate

Newcastle United boss Graeme Souness wants to re-sign Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate.

The England international is just establishing himself at Real after missing all of last season with a series of knee and thigh injuries.

Newcastle have an option on Woodgate and Souness hopes an offer of £5 million will be enough to land the centre-half.

Woodgate is keen to stay at Real, but much will depend on how he is used by coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo in the coming months now that he is fully fit.
