Newcastle's Luque: Real Madrid gaffed choosing Robinho over Owen

Newcastle boss Graeme Souness says he isn't surprised Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admitted this week that he wished Michael Owen was back at Anfield.
 
Newcastle boss Souness said: "I fully understand Steven Gerrard talking like he has."

"Every manager and player would love Michael in the dressing room - he's a special talent."

Toon team-mate Albert Luque also reckons Real dropped a big clanger selling Owen.

Real forced Owen, 25, out and brought in Brazilian Robinho - despite the England star's 14 goals for the Bernabeu side last term.

Luque said: "Real let Owen go as they were getting Robinho but I'd have stuck with Owen."

"Robinho has style but is not as spectacular as he's been made out. He has much to prove."
