Newcastle join race for Real Madrid's Salgado

Newcastle United have joined the race for unhappy Real Madrid fullback Michel Salgado.

The Mirror says Toon boss Graeme Souness is planning a second raid on the Spanish giants - and hopes Michael Owen can influence the World Cup defender to come to Newcastle.

Salgado can quit Real in January because the Galacticos are recruiting Brazilian right-back Cicinho.
