Newcastle United are confident they can land American sensation Freddy Adu ahead of Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The 14 year-old is the hottest teenage talent in the world and is a priority target for Manchester United.

However, Newcastle are confident they can sign Adu, having stayed in contact with the youngster for over a year.

Newcastle first discovered the American when he starred against them in the Dallas Cup last season - against the club's Under-17s.
