Nacho, Valverde react after Napoli 2-3 Real Madrid: “Three great goals”

Despite going down a goal early, Real Madrid held their own to come back and win with a 3-2 scoreline over Napoli last night.

The men in white toiled and spent most of the game chasing after the Italian giants, but were rewarded for their efforts in the end.

Nacho Fernandez started alongside Antonio Rudiger in defence in the UEFA Champions League clash last night and gave a solid performance. The captain commented on the collective effort after the game, saying:

"We are very happy for the win. We knew it was a very difficult stadium and against a great team like Napoli. The goal was to win, but it has cost us."

"We have played away from home against one of the strongest rivals in the group and we are very happy for the triumph. We want to continue like this," he added on the magnitude of the win.

Nacho praised the team’s ability to score phenomenal goals under pressure and revealed the sensations of the group.

"The important thing about those goals is that they have served to add the three points. The three have been equally important and have been three great goals. The important thing is the good feelings of the team."

Federico Valverde was the hero last night, for it was his banger of a volley that led to the own goal which secured three points for Real Madrid.

"It was a very nice game and with spectacular weather. It’s the first time I’ve played here. The important thing is that we win," the Uruguayan said about the match.

He then added a brief summary of the game and the team that played better across the 90 minutes.

"We dominated the first half, but we suffered in the first few minutes. Then they scored a penalty and we came back, but we ended up going forward to get the victory."

Valverde commended the Italian side for the fight they put up at home but insisted that his team made the better impression over 90 minutes.

"We have to be self-critical. We played a good game, but a goal from them put them in the game. The fans are putting pressure on us and that’s normal, but we have a good team to play better in those minutes."

Speaking on his teammates, Vinicius Jr. and Bellingham, who combined magically on the night, Valverde said,

"It was a great game from Vini and Bellingham and they showed it in every goal. For the first one, Bellingham got the ball back and set up Vini Jr. for a great goal. Then Jude worked his magic for the second goal."

Real Madrid’s third goal had the Uruguayan’s name all over it, for it was his unstoppable volley that sent the ball towards goal. Yet, it was finally adjudged to be an own goal by the Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret.

"I was a bit sad because I looked at the scoreboard and it didn’t say Valverde. An opponent told me that the goal wasn’t mine, but the important thing is that we got the three points," the midfielder lamented about not being awarded the goal.

Finally, the youngster urged his teammates to continue in the same vein of form and hard work.

"We have to continue on this path, with humility, working and with effort."
