Munitis closer to Liverpool after Racing Santander axe

New Racing Santander president Dimitri Piterman has axed star winger Pedro Munitis ahead of this week's game against Real Valladolid.

Piterman is still to hear from the Spanish FA whether he will be allowed to sit on the bench for the weekend's game.

In the meantime, the millionaire has shaken up his squad with no less than six changes expected.

The most high-profile is Munitis, who is expected to hold a media conference on Sunday to discuss his future at Racing.

The former Real Madrid midfielder is wanted by Liverpool and almost joined the Premiership giants before moving to Racing in the summer.
