Mourinho: Roberto Carlos not too old for Chelsea

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has no concerns over the age of transfer target Roberto Carlos.
 
The Chelsea boss wants to land the 33 year-old Real Madrid defender on a three-year deal worth £100,000 a week.

Mourinho insists Carlos is the best left-back in the world - and maintains that is all that counts as he builds a side to win the Champions League.

He said: "I'm not one of those who looks at identity cards. I'm with those who think what's most important about a player is what he does for 90 minutes, regardless if he is 20, 30 or 40 years old."

"Roberto is a mature player in fine condition, the best in his position."

Mourinho has already added Michael Ballack, 30, and Andriy Shevchenko, 29, to his squad.

Mourinho added: "It's possible Roberto will sign but I think we have to wait a little longer."

Carlos said: "Chelsea have made me a fantastic offer but we have to wait to see what Real will do."
