Mourinho makes clear Real Madrid must keep Chelsea target Pepe

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has made it clear to his board how important it is to keep Pepe.

The Portugal defender is frustrated over continued haggling regarding a new contract and is now eyeing a move to Chelsea.

Mourinho has made it clear they need to keep hold of Pepe.

"The team is at it's best when Pepe plays, the team with Pepe is not afraid to leave spaces at the back, the team with Pepe presses further upfield, the team recovers the ball with Pepe quicker and the team with Pepe is more dangerous in attack," said Mourinho.

"Pepe is an excellent player who has one year left on his contract, so for me this issue is not a concern today. If the player does not reach an agreement to renew, that is a problem for Pepe and the board - it is not my problem."
