'Moro' double sees off Sevilla

A Fernando Morientes brace was enough to hand Real Madrid a 2-1 win against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu saturday.

Real started well and began a domination that would last the entire 90 minutes.

Luis Figo thought he had put Real ahead after just five minutes but referee Julián Rodríguez Santiago disallowed what seemed to be a perfectly legal goal, judging Morientes to have been in an offside position during the build-up.

Raul's 29th minute header lashed the Sevilla bar during one of Real's brighter moments of the first half. But for all their possession, the Madrlienos had little luck with their sporadic offensives nor with Rodríguez Santiago, who angered the local fans with some debatable decisions.

Real took a well-deserved lead four minutes before half-time when Zinedine Zidane found Morientes free inside the area. The Caceres-born striker's low shot escaped the outstretched hand of Sevilla keeper Antonio Notario to give the home side the lead.

Real extended their lead seven minutes into the second half when Morientes shook off Sevilla's Javi Navarro to slot inside the left post from inside the box.

Sevilla pulled one back in the 77th minute - Francisco Casquero intercepting a Claude Makelele pass to race on and feed Moisés García, who fired inside the right post.

The win is just the boost Real were looking for as they move up the table with 19 points, overtaking's tonight's rivals Sevilla, who remain on 17 points.
