Morientes: Spurs are not for me

Fernando Morientes has no desire to play for Spurs.

The Real Madrid striker insists he is happy to stay in Spain with the European champions.

He told The Sun: "I have no wish to go and play for Tottenham, or play in London."

"Real are the European champions, while Tottenham have not even qualified for the Uefa Cup."

"I am very happy playing for Real, and I have no desire to leave the club, or Spain, whatsoever."

Hoddle however maintains that there is a possibility of the Spaniard moving to Spurs.

Hoddle said: "I understand the lad wants to come."

"And we wouldn't be where we are now if we didn't think there was a possibility of him coming."

"We're in negotiations with Madrid and have been working on it for six or seven weeks now."

"We're very much interested in the bringing him here if we can. Now we've got to try and move things forward from here."

"We'll keep foraging away and working away behind the scenes and see where it takes us."

Hoddle also scotched speculation suggesting Real's failure to land Inter Milan ace Ronaldo is off would affect Spurs' move for Morientes.

"We've already been talking about this for seven weeks - so quite frankly, I don't think that comes into the situation," he added.

Hoddle also warned Morientes he will not be afraid to turn his attention elsewhere if the deal turns stale.

He added: "Sometimes you get what you want and sometimes you don't. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Then we'll go somewhere else."

"We've got a list of other players we've been working towards, so we'd try and negotiate with their clubs."
