Morientes operation a success

Fernando Morientes has successfully undergone an operation on his troublesome groin injury.

The strike ace had been playing through the pain barrier for Real but was forced off after just half an hour of the 2-2 draw with Espanyol on Sunday.

He will now be out of action for around three months and will miss the World Club Championship at the end of July.

Club doctor Alfonso del Corral said: "Our aim is making sure that he is ready to take part in pre-season training alongside the rest of his team mates."
