Mijatovic fumes as Real Madrid's Beckham sees straight red

Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham was shown a straight red card in their 0-0 draw with Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Beckham was sent-off in injury time after scything down Isidoro from behind on the edge of the Betis penalty area.

The former England captain, who was only recalled to the Madrid side last week following a six-match exile, was clearly frustrated after being denied what he felt was a foul just seconds before.

Beckham was applauded off the pitch by the home fans, but moments later those cheers turned to jeers as the referee Cesar Fernandez blew for full-time to end another unconvincing home display from Madrid, who missed the chance to put Primera Liga leaders Barcelona under pressure.

A victory would have seen Madrid move to within two points of Barca, who face a testing away match at Valencia on Sunday.

Afterwards, Real sports chief Pedja Mijatovic blasted Fernandez: "Although I do not like to speak about these subjects, we are receiving fatal decisions. I have a feeling the referees are against us. There are plays or cards that I do not understand, nor does anybody else."

"Beckham did not deserve to be sent-off. Earlier there was a worse challenge on Robinho and the referee was only five yards away, but did not give anything."

"We are not going to complain and until now we have kept quiet, but now is the time to highlight these things."
