Mijatovic calls it quits

Serbo-Montenegrin international striker Predrag Mijatovic has announced his retirement from professional soccer.

Mijatovic's career highlight was in 1998, when he scored the only goal of the game in Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League final against Juventus. He has also won a league title with FK Partizan and then moved to Spain where he bagged 56 goals in 104 league matches for Valencia.

Mijatovic, who is also an ex-Fiorentina player, confirmed his decision to the media on Wednesday. The 34-year-old forward said: "Physically I feel fine, but I have no need to carry on playing. The time has come to enjoy family life."

He made 71 appearances Serbia and Montenegro/Yugoslavia, scoring 28 goals. He spent last season with Spanish second division outfit Levante UD. He scored 3 goals in 21 appearances and realized that his best days were behind him.
