Metzelder 'Optimistic' About Real Madrid Future

Real Madrid and Germany defender, Christoph Metzelder has said today that he is optimistic about his future at the club, but knows it could depend on results.

It's fair to say that Christoph Metzelder has not found life easy joining Real Madrid back in 2007, but nevertheless, the German defender is still optimistic about his future with los Blancos.

Metzelder, who has played just a handful of games in his season-and-a-half at the club, told AS today that he knows a lot could depend on results, but he is hopeful.

"I am very optimistic, with the change of coach things have been altered, and I believe I can continue at Madrid," he declared.

"However, in a club such as this one, I know that I must wait until the end of the season to see how things have worked out."

The German is known to be pleased with arrival of Juande Ramos as coach, and he expressed his happiness again today.

"He has other methods and other ways of dealing with the players. I know, from speaking with him, that he is happy with my work," he mused.

One of the problems that Metzelder has encountered in his time at Madrid is that not playing for a club often means international chances are limited too.

The defender says that he understands why he has not been selected by Joachim Low though.

"If, over a period of months, one does not play at all, then it evidently makes no sense to be chosen for the national team," he concluded.
