Metzelder: I Will Take Advantage Of Real Madrid Opportunity

Real Madrid defender, Christoph Metzelder, has said today that he will take advantage of any opportunity given to him by new coach Juande Ramos, and that he has never regretted joining the Spanish side.

The arrival of Juande Ramos at Real Madrid might of only added to the 'crisis' at the club this winter, but for Christoph Metzelder, it has marked a new beginning.

The German has largely been out of favour since joining the defending La Liga champions, but under Ramos it looks as though he could be given more minutes, and he says he is ready to take advantage of that.

"I was always convinced that I would have an opportunity and now, with Juande, the moment has come, and I have to take advantage of it," he declared to AS.

The defender joined Madrid back in 2007 from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, and whilst he has made just a handful of starts, he says he doesn't regret making the move.

"I have never regretted coming to Real Madrid," he began.

"Playing here was a challenge to me, and I had to do it. There have been difficult times, but I never had any doubts that it was the right thing to do."

Indeed, Metzelder seems to be a lot more optimistic with Juande Ramos in charge, and unsurprisingly he had nothing but praise for the coach today.

"I am delighted with Juande. He has asked from us order and discipline, and I know that he trusts in me. The Champions League is our main objective, but Liverpool have a good record in recent years. To beat them will be very hard," he asserted.

With his new found confidence the German also did not complain about the extra work over Christmas, saying that 'all the defenders who come to Real Madrid know they are going to have to work more.
