Menotti 'no fireman' to Barcelona's blaze

Former Barcelona coach Cesar Luis Menotti said Wednesday he is not prepared to rush in "like a fireman putting out the fire" to save the struggling Spanish club.

Barcelona have slumped to 10th in the 20-team premier league and Argentinian Menotti, who coached the Catalans in 1983-84, has been mooted as a replacement for the increasingly under-fire Dutch coach Luis Van Gaal.

But Menotti, 64, told RAC-1 radio station here it would take more than a short-term offer to entice him back.

"I don't want to coach the team just until June - that's no long term plan," said 64-year-old Menotti, who coached Argentina's victorious World Cup team in 1978.

"This job really belongs to someone from the club or to someone who is looking for fortune and glory. And I have all that already."

Menotti was sacked in November by Argentine top flight side Rosario Central for a run of poor results.
