Meija superb as Real Madrid defeat Villarreal

Real Madrid striker Ronaldo was on the mark as his team saw off an impressive Villarreal 2-1 yesterday.

Santiago Solari and Ronaldo had the hosts 2-0 up before Sergio Ballesteros' effort four minutes from time gave Real a nervous time at the end.

"Real Madrid is playing like a team: compact and dominating at the Bernabeu, fighting and making the rivals feel it is very difficult here to score," said Queiroz.

Real gave youngster Alvaro Meija his debut and Queiroz said, "Mejia was fantastic but all played at a great level. All the players developed their work in a big way. It was a very good game for us."

"Solari made a great game. He is a player who always has demonstrated a fantastic attitude."
