McManaman poised to join Manchester City

Former England international midfielder Steve McManaman is poised to join Manchester City after being released by Real Madrid, the premier league club's website reported on Friday.

The 31-year-old, who had a year left on his contract with the Spanish champions, will undergo a medical on Saturday and could sign a two-year contract with City before Sunday's match against Arsenal.

"We are delighted with the move for Steve as this shows our intent to continue to drive forward," City Chairman John Wardle said.

"By bringing in players of the calibre of McManaman and (American midfielder) Claudio Reyna, whose signing we completed today, we are showing a real ambition to progress."
