McManaman in Everton talks

Real Madrid midfielder Steve McManaman has reportedly held secret talks with Everton boss David Moyes in a bid to seal a return to Merseyside.

The former Liverpool winger is reported to be ready to take a massive drop in salary in order to play for the club he supported as a child and he has apparently already had lengthy talks with Moyes about the possibility of a move to Goodison Park.

Everton's pay cap would see Macca's wages dropping from around £60,000 a week to £20,000, but a hefty signing on-fee, probably spread over a few years, would compensate for his drop in wages.

There is a thought that Real might well want a fee for the player they signed on a free transfer from the Reds but McMannaman is reported to have a clause in his contract which would allow him to return to an English club for nothing if he desired.

Manchester City, with McManaman's best friend Robbie Fowler, have also been linked with a move for the former England star's services.
