McManaman Has No Future At Real

Real Madrid have confirmed that Steve McManaman has no future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spanish champion's sporting director Jorg Valdano revealed the club were looking to offload the former Liverpool ace and Pedro Munitis so that they could fund a move for a defender.

The former England international has rarely held down a first team spot since moving to Real Madrid on a free transfer in 1999, but has always insisted he is happy to stay in Madrid. However, it now looks like he will be forced out of the club.

Valdano said: "The club is waiting for players to leave in order to sign a new defender."

"I don't want to be too hard on the players who didn't play on the tour, but they know what their situation is and we have to look for solutions so that the squad is reduced to the size we want."

Earlier this summer Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan confirmed an interest in signing the winger.
