McManaman could return to Premiership

Real Madrid midfielder Steve McManaman has not ruled out a return to the Premiership when his Spanish fiesta ends.

The former Liverpool star's contract expires in the summer and with first team opportunities restricted he is still unsure of his future.

However, McManaman - who is set to renew old rivalries with Manchester United in the Champions League this week - is in no rush to leave the Bernabeu.

"Normally things like that (contract negotiations) don't get done until the final year, usually the last minute in this place," said the former England player, who has started only four matches and completed 90 minutes twice in Primera Liga and Champions League matches for Madrid during his three and a half years in Spain.

"I'll wait and see what happens and get this year out of the way and think about things in the summer.

"If something came up (in the Premiership) which represented a good challenge for me I would never say never. I don't know.

"As a footballer you always want to play. If things come to a head I'll have a think about it in the summer.

"When you are playing bit parts it is frustrating because you want to try to be as successful as possible," he told Radio Five Live.
