Martin Palermo: I want to attract the attention of Real and Barca

Argentinean international Martin Palermo has admitted that he is using his tour of duty at La Liga side Villarreal as a springboard to attract interest from one of the Spanish giants.

The 27-year old striker moved to El Madrigal stadium during the 2000/2001 season after spending four highly productive campaigns at legendary Argentinean club Boca Juniors.

But the big front man, who is under contract to Villarreal until 2005, revealed that his ambition is to move to one of the Spanish powerhouses like Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"I want to show I can succeed at a great club, one of those that are obliged to win and be at the top," Palermo said.

"It is true that I have a contract here for four more years but I can promote myself."

"If things go well a great team will show an interest in signing me."

One aspect missing from his Villarreal experience, he says, is the lukewarm passion displayed by the club’s supporters, a far cry from the diehard fanaticism found in Boca’s Camilio Cichero stadium, a venue four times the size of the El Madrigal in Villarreal.

"It is difficult for me to feel like I did at Boca because it is not the same on the pitch and those passionate people," explained the Argentine.
