Mariano Diaz unveiled as Real Madrid’s new number 7

OUT with the old and in with the new.

Real Madrid have announced Mariano Diaz as their new number 7.

The 25-year-old was officially unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeau but the Real Madrid faithful were shocked to see him adopting the famous number 7 jersey, left vacant by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Los Blancos re-signed the striker from French side Lyon for A$39 million on a five-year deal having only last summer allowed him to move to France for $8m.

The Spanish-born Dominican Republic international is a product of the Real academy, but looked set to sign for Sevilla before Real made their move.

Mariano was a hit in France as he scored 18 times while providing seven assists to help his side finish in the top three and gain a Champions League qualification berth.

Under the terms of the deal, Lyon will receive 15 percent of any surplus Real make in a future deal for the player.
