Newly-appointed Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has returned to his native Chile and told journalists of his delight at becoming boss of the Spanish giants.
Pellegrini left Villarreal, where he had spent five successful years guiding them to a Champions League semi-final in 2006 and a quarter-final last campaign, to become part of Florentino Perez’s new regime.
Marca reports that the 55-year old spoke enthusiastically about his appointment.
“The pressure at Real Madrid is independent of the outcome of other teams and is always the highest."
“I want to have a career for many years, I’ve been passing various stages in different countries and to reach the world’s biggest club is a great satisfaction.”
Pellegrini replaces Juande Ramos in the Los Blancos hotseat, after a trophyless campaign that ended with five consecutive defeats, and new president Perez says he will provide a substantial transfer budget in order to dethrone champions Barcelona, both domestically and in Europe.
It has been reported that the Chilean may be heading back to his former club to take the central defensive pairing of Gonzalo and Diego Godin to the Bernabeu, while the transfer of Brazilian maestro Kaka is expected to be confirmed sometime this week.
