Man Utd step up move for Real Madrid fullback Salgado

Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to sign Real Madrid fullback Michel Salgado.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson attempted to sign the Spanish international in August and Marca says he is redoubling his efforts this week to convince Salgado not to pen a new contract at Real.

Salgado becomes a free agent next June and can begin speaking with clubs in January. Along with United, Chelsea and Arsenal have also sent out feelers.

Real president Florentino Perez had a short conversation with Salgado after the 4-2 defeat of Olympique Marseille, telling him that talks would soon open on a new contract.
