Man Utd sound out Real Madrid No1 Casillas

Manchester United are chasing Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has sounded out Casillas' agent, Gines Carvajal, about the young keeper's plans for his future and has been encouraged by the feedback received.

Casillas' contract at Real expires in 2006 and Ferguson has informed Carvajal they're happy to wait until then to sign the Spanish international on a Bosman.

United are prepared to sign Casillas to a £4 million-a-year contract, well out of the league for Real which only reserves that sort of salary to its galacticos.

United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz has played a major role in Ferguson's move for Casillas, having worked with the Spaniard at Real Madrid last season.
