Man Utd offered Beckham new deal in May

Manchester United offered David Beckham a new contract on May 14 - just three days after he celebrated winning his sixth Premiership title with the club.

The Telegraph says the offer was made by United chief Peter Kenyon in a meeting with Beckham's advisor, Tony Stephens of SFX.

But Beckham did not see this contract until last Sunday, having spent the previous month either with England or in the United States.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was convinced that Beckham's new band of advisors, which had been brought in by wife Victoria, had removed him from the collectivist team philosophy Ferguson espouses.

Indeed, it's reported that had Beckham gone to La Manga for the recent England training camp, he would have been in a special villa separate from the other players, which confirmed Ferguson's concerns.
