Man Utd legend Cantona slams "ugly" Real Madrid over Beckham reports

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has blasted Real Madrid over its interest in United midfielder David Beckham.

Cantona is convinced Real are talking publicly about signing Beckham to unsettle United during their Champions League quarterfinal.

The Frenchman told Gazetta dello Sport, "In England there is great respect between clubs, but in Europe, no."

"Real Madrid is mounting the Beckham case to destabilize the Champions League quarterfinal. It is a very ugly action. I do not know if Madrid really wants him, but of course Beckham has everything to also prevail in Spain."

Cantona also paid tribute to United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in the interview, adding: "Sir Alex Ferguson has the respect of all players."

"Traditionally English trainers are fat and drink beer."

"Ferguson is obsessed with perfection. He programs everything, from the routine of training, to the hours that there is to sleep."
