Man Utd in frame for Real Madrid No1 Casillas

Manchester United haven't given up on prising goalkeeper Iker Casillas away from Real Madrid.

The Spanish international confirmed last week that talks over a new contract have begun with Real, but its understood his demands will prove difficult to match for the Madrid club.

Casillas wants greater recognition after seeing his profile wane over the last 12 months and is seeking a contract that reflects his status as one of Europe's best young goalkeepers.

DiarioSport says United have approached Casillas' agent, Gines Carvajal, and registered their interest in the 23 year-old. A preliminary contract offer has also been submitted: a five-year deal worth £85,000-a-week, or £6.5 million annually.

The Premiership club's offer far outstrips what Real have so far indicated they're prepared to table Casillas and Carvajal knows with his client inside the final 18 months of his current deal, the Madrid giants will have to decide soon whether they're serious about keeping the youngster.
