Man City, Everton watch as Real Madrid heap pressure on Macca

It's a battle of wills between Real Madrid and midfielder Steve McManaman.

The 31 year-old England international was included in Real's Asian tour, but has hardly figured, but won't ask to leave as he is seeking a pay-out for the final year of his contract.

Marca says Real officials have told him several times that he is not wanted this season, with sports chief Jorge Valdano threatening to not even register him.

Real want to get McManaman's £60,000-a-week wage off their books and promote a player from their youth team.

But McManaman won't budge, though he can count on Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City as potential employers should he decide to jump.
