Makelele: New Chelsea stars must produce immediately

New Chelsea signing Claude Makelele has admitted the club's new-look team must deliver immediate results.

The French international said, "The players are the ones who should have to deal with the pressure, not the manager."

"We have to do our jobs on the pitch. It is the players who are there to support Mr Ranieri and if it goes wrong it should be us and not him, who are punished."

"I have only trained once with the squad since I arrived in London but I have already seen what a gifted squad this is."

Makelele added: "It was a big decision for me to leave Real Madrid and I thought about it for a long time. Before making the decision, I spoke to my France team-mates Marcel Desailly and William Gallas."
