Makelele Denies Wanting Manchester United Move

Real Madrid midfielder Claude Makelele has strongly denied reports that he wants to sign for Manchester United.

The influencial Frenchman stresses he hasn't held talks with the Premiership champions, and has denied comments associated to him.

He said: "It is fake. I did not make those statements but moreover, neither I nor my agent had contact with the English club."

Sunday's News of the World had quoted him as saying "I'd love to go and play for Manchester United."

"They have been in contact with my representatives and I'd love to go there. I will say yes if an offer comes in. I feel the need to discover a different championship after five years in Spain."

"Playing for Alex Ferguson is something I want to experience. He is a truly great manager."
