Madrid will rule in USA

Real Madrid are planning to cash in on Beckham-mania with a money-spinning tour of the US next summer.

Real Madrid are planning to cash in on Beckham-mania with a money-spinning tour of the US next summer.

The Spanish giants are confident they can eclipse even Manchester United in a global marketing war after the commercial success of their trip to Asia.

Real chiefs had expected massive interest in £25million new boy Beckham, but they were amazed by the hysteria generated by the England captain over the past three weeks in the Far East.

Real made £6m in Asia EXCLUDING shirt sales and other merchandising spin-offs.

And now they are ready to crack the American market, with Beckham an established star across the Atlantic and with fanatical interest in the club’s Brazilian stars Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos.

Beckham’s new team-mates were up in arms about their gruelling schedule in Asia.

They were angry that their regular annual pre-season training camp in Austria was cancelled to make way for the trip.

But Real president Florentino Perez told his millionaire players that they have a responsibility to the club’s coffers.

And he recognises they must tour again next summer — and he knows there are big bucks to be made in the States.

Perez insists Real should be the most lucrative brand name in the football world.

He said: "Real Madrid has all the ingredients for a great brand name."

"The value of our name is a reality around the world and this is at the very core of our considerations and plans."

Beckham returned to Madrid yesterday after four impressive displays in Asia.

He will play his first Real game on Spanish soil in a friendly at Valencia this weekend.

Becks was the only member of coach Carlos Queiroz’s star-studded squad to play in all four matches.

Queiroz said: "David has done very well. The team welcomed him with open arms and helped him integrate."
