Madrid Up For Peace Cup

Real Madrid Sporting Director Pedja Mijatovic confirmed this afternoon that the defending La Liga champions will participate in the 2009 edition of the Peace Cup that is to be held in Andalucia next summer.

It's great news for the Peace Dream Foundation as they can now enjoy the prestige of having one of Europe's biggest clubs partake in it's humble peace tournament that will be played next summer.

Already a growing affair, the Peace Cup will be played in Spain for the first time, rather than South Korea, in an attempt to encourage more networks to publicize the event.

Speaking this afternoon at a press conference, Real Madrid Sporting Director Predrag Mijatovic spoke about the importance of his team's participation.

"Real Madrid are always ready to fight for peace and against poverty, the event has a global impact" he began, "Madrid have always wanted to participate in tournaments that promote fundamental campaigns, and are very happy to have the opportunity to alleviate such problems."

The former striker then spoke about peace in Serbia when he was a player, a time that brought serious distraught to Serbians worldwide. "My country dealt with these matters during the 90's, when the youth fought for something they didn't understand," said Mijatovic emotionally.

The first Peace Cup was held in 2003 in South Korea and has been a growing event ever since. The games will be played in Malaga, Jerez, Huelva, and Seville; all money generated from TV contracts to ticketing and marketing will be donated to social welfare projects that assist the youth.

Tottenham Hotspur, Olympic Lyon, Sevilla, and Real Madrid have agreed to participate so far, but more teams are expected to apply in the coming months.
