Madrid Promise Hierro New Deal

Florentino Perez has confirmed that Fernando Hierro will be offered a new contract at the end of the season.

The Real Madrid president praised the team captain's dedication to the club and said that his performances on the field would be rewarded with a new deal.

After being whistled by Madrid's supporters during the 5-1 defeat by Mallorca, the news will be a welcome relief for Hierro, whose current contract runs out in the summer.

"He is one of the best defenders in the world and he has recently been out for a month and a half," explained Perez.

"His behaviour has been an example in the three years I have been president and in the 11 years before then."

"His contract will be renewed no matter what happens in the last few games of this season."

Jorge Valdano was speaking about a two-year deal, but maybe that is not much considering how he has played in recent years and how he is playing now.

"Neither Hierro nor Del Bosque's contracts depend on us winning titles or not."
