Madrid derby set for new year

Real will start the new year by meeting their neighbours Atlético Madrid in a special friendly match at the Santiago Bernabéu on January 2.

The game has been organized to promote the city's bid for the 2012 Olympic games and will be the first time the two rivals have come face to face since Atletico were relegated to La Segunda two seasons ago.

A kick-off time of 7.30pm has been set for the clash between the capitals most celebrated clubs.
