Luxemburgo: Losing Morientes to Liverpool hurts Real Madrid

Real Madrid coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has admitted the sale of Fernando Morientes to Liverpool has hurt his squad.

The transfer of Morientes to Anfield was one of the first pieces of business Luxemburgo oversaw following his appointment and he told AS: "He was a very good alternative for our team because he could change many things. He gave different things to us."

Luxemburgo also revealed he could have been coaching in Spain long before his arrival at Real Madrid.

"I could have gone to Depor. Also there was a possibility with Barcelona, in a dinner with Núñez and Van Gaal, although there was no proposal in concrete."
