Luxemburgo happy with Real Madrid's stand against Ronaldo

Real Madrid coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo is privately delighted that Ronaldo was fined this week for breaches of club discipline.

While supportive of his star striker in public, behind the scenes Luxemburgo has been concerned that the club's president, Florentino Perez, was reluctant to punish the Brazilian.

But this week's fine for arriving late to training and also gesturing to Luxemburgo after being substituted against Real Zaragoza has ended all doubts the coach had of the board's total support for his methods.

The Real trainer now feels in complete control of his squad and his players know that no-one, not even Ronaldo, will be afforded special treatment.

Luxemburgo insists he has no problem working with Ronaldo and even yesterday, after speaking about the striker's fine, he said: "In any case, Ronie is such a great player that he could score twice at the Riazor tomorrow and all of this will be forgotten."
