Lowly Recreativo reach King's Cup final for first time

Spain's oldest club Recreativo Huelva secured a place in the King's Cup final for the first time in their 114-year history after they drew 2-2 in the second leg of their semi-final against Osasuna on Wednesday.

The first division basement side fought their way back from 2-0 down with two quick-fire goals at the start of the second half to claim a 4-2 aggregate win at a rain-drenched El Sadar.

Osasuna, who trailed 2-0 after the first leg, dominated the first half as they adapted better to the conditions and took the lead when Australian striker John Aloisi smashed in from close range midway through the first half.

Two minutes before the break the Navarrans went further ahead and levelled the tie on aggregate when midfielder Moha struck with a low shot from the edge of the area.

But Recreativo, who have experienced a mini-revival in recent weeks with impressive league wins over Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, came out with all guns blazing in the second half to restore their aggregate lead.

Speedy striker Xisco broke through the Osasuna defence two minutes after the restart and finished off by chipping into the net over a despairing Juan Carlos Unzue.

Osasuna barely had time to recover before the Andalucians struck again.

This time midfielder Ignacio Benitez steered a powerful right-foot drive inside the near post after he had picked up a neat pass from Xisco on the edge of the area to leave Osasuna needing to score three times to turn the tie around.

Despite the best efforts of the home side Recreativo were not to be denied and held out for their historic aggregate win.
