Liverpool to pounce as Real Madrid confirm Morientes exit

Real Madrid have confirmed they are ready to sell striker Fernando Morientes in January.

Liverpool are favourites to land the Spanish international with negotiations having already opened over his transfer fee.

"He is thinking of leaving, because he is getting very few minutes football and he wants to play," admitted Real coach Mariano Garcia Remon.

"Morientes and the club have to look for the best solution."

Real are looking for £8million although Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is unlikely to pay that amount for the 28-year-old.
