Liverpool still in frame for Real Madrid's Morientes

Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes is assessing his future with the club.

While flattered that Real released a statement on Wednesday declaring that he was not for sale, Morientes is still frustrated at being a permanent substitute under coach Mariano Garcia Remon.

Yesterday, his agent, Gines Carvajal, met with Real sports director Emilio Butragueno to discuss the striker's situation. Marca says it didn't end in the best way, with the two men disagreeing over the player's future.

If things do not improve for Morientes in the coming weeks, he is expected to sound out Real directors about allowing him to move on.

Liverpool's chances of signing the Spanish international are likely to improve with Javier Portillo expected to cut short his loan at Fiorentina and return to Real Madrid in December.
