Liverpool's Xabi aware of new round of Real Madrid talks

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso hopes a deal can be struck with Real Madrid this week.

Powerbrokers from both clubs met in Barcelona yesterday as Liverpool faced Espanyol.

Xabi was aware of the meeting and told AS: "I am staying calm knowing that Madrid and Liverpool are together talking seriously.

"I decided to stay here regardless of what is happening. My position has been clear as everyone knows. I am a professional and I'm hoping for an agreement."

"Hopefully this is resolved soon, for better or for worse."
