Liverpool's Carragher: Gutted if Owen joins Real Madrid

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher admits he would be disappointed if Michael Owen chose to join Real Madrid.

Reds defender Carragher, one of Owen's best pals, said: "I'll be disappointed if we lose Michael as a friend but more importantly as a footballer. He's one of the best strikers around."

But he added: "With England he's one of the best players there and sees players who aren't as good with more medals and championships. Maybe that's something he wants to rectify."

"I hope he'll stay. He hasn't left yet and while he's still a Liverpool player there's hope."
