Liverpool revive bid for Real Madrid's Morientes

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is weighing up a January bid for Real Madrid centre-forward Fernando Morientes.

Benitez is aware of Morientes' troubles at Real, where he has been left on the bench by new coach Mariano Garcia Remon.

Juventus are also keen on the centre-forward, who lit up Europe last season while on-loan to AS Monaco.

Real would try to set a prohibitive fee for the man who has 18 months still to run on his contract.

But Liverpool would be reluctant to pay more than the £8 million they received for Michael Owen.

Yet Benitez is keen to bring in another front man after a faltering start to life at Anfield by £14m record buy Djibril Cisse, and he wants a big-name star to give him further options up front.
